Next generation 1100L CL

Ergonomics for collection teams

After 50 years of unchanged standards, this new 4-wheel container fundamentally redefines how heavy loads are handled, tilted, moved and braked. Instead of forcing operators to compensate for outdated ergonomics, its design places human movement, safety and comfort at the forefront. Engineered for long term performance, it improves usability, reduces physical strain and enhances workplace safety.

ESE has involved collection teams to identify the main problems in their daily collection routines. With three core innovations ERGOSTOP®, ERGOSTEP® and ERGOGRIP®, this new generation of 4-wheel containers introduces a new benchmark for ergonomic waste handling, solving practical challenges that operators face many times per day.

This operator centred design is an integral part of the social responsibility you can demonstrate towards your collection teams, showing them that you care about their long term health and safety.

ERGOSTOP®
Always accessible.

The castors on 4 wheeled containers are notorious for having a mind of their own. Traditional brakes are connected to the castors and move with their orientation, often ending up beneath the container, making them difficult to access. Feedback from the collection teams highlighted the core issue: repositioning the brakes requires kicking the wheels hundreds of times each day. In addition to the heavy wear on safety shoes, the teams face significant long term health risks due to the repetitive strain on their joints.

ESE has listened to these problems and developed ERGOSTOP®. These brakes are always accessible at the front, exactly where the operator needs them. They allow handling without kicking and without needing to look at the wheel, providing a safer working environment that respects the needs of collection teams.

Safety is not optional, and therefore ERGOSTOP® comes standard on all ESE 4-wheel containers.

ERGOSTEP®
One small step.
One big help.

Another challenge that came back from the collection teams is returning an empty container to the curbstone after the emptying cycle. The empty 1100L bin still weighs about 50 kg and needs to be manually lifted back onto the curbstone, resulting in efficiency loss and strain on the shoulders, which risks a long term effect on health.

To improve the working environment, ESE has created ERGOSTEP®, a compact foot pocket on the lateral sides of the bin that helps the collector easily jump the curbstone.

For the moving of fully loaded bins towards the collection vehicle, feedback from collection teams exposed another improvement need. It is common for the operator to pull the bin instead of pushing it, and the grips that are positioned on both sides cause the bin to rotate awkwardly, which requires continuous correction by the operator.

ERGOGRIP® redefines how a 4-wheel container is moved. Instead of the traditional side grip that forces operators into an awkward, rotational pulling motion, ERGOGRIP® is a centrally positioned grip, either on the lid or on the body, which centers the operator in relation to the container. This aligned position enables a smooth and linear movement of the container.

The CL FlatLid is designed to evolve with changing requirements. The fraction clip system fully integrates the design into our CL product family and allows for flexible inventory management and easy adjustments to changing waste fractions. The clear communication of the clips enables the use of recycled plastics in the lid itself. The ergonomic design of the lid and the robust hinge system ensure mechanical stability and ergonomic handling.

The SplitLid® is a real ESE original! Developed over a decade ago by ESE development experts to reduce the strain on the shoulders while opening the lid. Many users, especially older generations, experience limitations when moving the arm above shoulder height to open the lid. The split lid allows opening by using a single hand gesture. The arm no longer needs to pass the shoulder while disposing a bag.
